Reasons to buy a Quooker 4 – how often you’ll use it

More than anything else

Until you own one, it’s almost impossible to imagine how great an impact having a Quooker tap can make.  This is because it delivers genuine 100°C boiling water so it can completely replace the kettle.

The one thing that people – and by that we mean Quooker owners, kitchen designers, retailers and our own engineers – all report, is that within a couple of weeks of owning a Quooker it has become the most frequently used appliance in the kitchen.

When you think about it, it’s absolutely logical.  On average, people in the UK drink between 4 and 6 hot drinks every day.  So even if all the Quooker ever did was help you to make hot drinks, you would use it four to six times every day.  That’s if you live alone.  In a busy family, where everyone likes to get their own drinks, or if friends drop by unannounced, that’s quite a few more hot drinks – and uses of the Quooker – every day.

But of course, that isn’t all you’ll use it for.  Most people cook.

Serious cooks find the Quooker absolutely invaluable – which is why you see it on a regular basis on the TV, at every work station on MasterChef and the Great British Bake Off and on the set of Saturday Kitchen too.  It was also behind the scenes at The Taste, and it's in another series currently in production – we can’t tell you about that yet, but the Quooker was the first choice for this new show too.

Ironically, reluctant cooks find the Quooker even more helpful, as it removes a lot of the effort involved in cooking  – providing a pan of boiling water for some hurriedly cooked pasta, rice or vegetables, or rustling up snacks such as instant soups and noodles.

Everyone also has to clean and wash up.

Two or three meals a day means several more uses for boiling water, cleaning knives, whisks, pans and utensils in moments.  And if you install a Quooker COMBI system, which mixes boiling water from the Quooker with cold feed to provide hot water from the domestic cold feed only, you’ll also enjoy an inexhaustible supply of hot water for washing plates, cups, glassware and cutlery too.  It’ll even provide water for hand washing delicate items.

If you’re a large family, you may use your washing machine every day, you may even iron several times a week.  You probably use the cooker twice and the dishwasher once a day.

Pretty quickly, you’ll agree that you use your Quooker more often than any other appliance in your kitchen.  Bar none.

Logically, therefore, if you don’t yet have one, you’d better make sure that when you do buy a boiling water tap, it can do all this – in fact, we’d say it had better be a Quooker.

Quooker workplace economics 3 - Hydration

Hydration makes work go swimmingly

Almost all of the recent research into workplace productivity has come to the same conclusion; hydration is a key factor that increases and preserves productivity in a workforce. A hydrated workforce is not only a happy workforce, it is effective too.

A Quooker boiling water tap in the workplace is of huge benefit to employer and employee alike when it comes to both hydration and productivity. It encourages regular hydration by being quick and convenient.

Hydration is great for the brain, allowing it to stay oxygenated which acts to improve brain function. It takes as little as a 1% loss of body water to significantly reduce concentration in the human brain. A Quooker tap helps a workplace team to remain hydrated without disruption to work or concentration. It delivers genuinely 100°C water on demand, taking only a few seconds to make a cuppa, as opposed to 3 minutes or more with a traditional kettle.  Your team should take a statutory break mid-morning, lunchtime and mid-afternoon, but letting them have a cuppa more often than that really is wise thinking.

Water enables our bloodstream to deliver nutrients and oxygen to our entire body, keeping us awake and focused on the tasks at hand. A Quooker uses a storage tank that holds up to 11 litres of water at a constant 110°C, so that when water is delivered it is not only genuinely boiling, but plentiful for as many cups as are required. This means that staff can help themselves to as much liquid refreshment as they want, without wasting time – which is money.

Good digestion is so important to health and a person who is hydrated is more able to digest food and absorb nutrients than a person who is dehydrated.  A Quooker tap will deliver boiling water all day, every day, whenever it is needed. It is great for helping to prepare quick meals (such as noodles, soup and pasta) and for aiding hydration which allows people to digest their food, stay comfortable and avoid drowsiness.

A Quooker in the workplace helps to keep your team hydrated, whilst minimizing the time cost that is involved in regular preparation of refreshments. Hydrated people are happier – and that makes them far more productive.

Reasons to buy a Quooker 3 - On the scale of things

Limescale is part of life in some parts of the country, which is why we do all we can to help Quooker owners to tackle this successfully. Thankfully, homes in much of the UK don’t have to face this problem, but in some areas, calcium and magnesium salts in the water do cause limescale to form.

Despite being well aware of the harm that limescale can do to steam ovens, washing machines, dishwashers, irons and a host of domestic appliances, including the Quooker, water authorities have still not invested in the technology needed to filter out limescale before it reaches end users.

The good news, on the other hand, is that at Quooker we do take this issue seriously and have formulated a number of solutions for dealing with limescale build up. The simplest solution is to install a Quooker limescale filter which removes the limescale before it can reach the Quooker tap – which is what we wish water suppliers would do. This simply needs replacing from time to time and can be retrofitted, so you can add a filter even if your Quooker was installed some time ago.

The design of the Quooker makes keeping it clear of limescale as straightforward as we can make it. The famous removable aerator, which is what helps to keep the 100°C boiling water from scalding, can be unscrewed and removed for regular local cleaning, keeping it free from limescale build up. The Quooker tank, which is designed to keep water under pressure so that it is always delivered as truly boiling water, also ensures that any limescale that does collect is accumulated all in one place for easier removal. Some of our rivals allow limescale to collect in multiple locations – which makes them more difficult to keep free of limescale.

Quooker offers three options for fuss-free limescale control:
  • Clean it yourself. A competent DIYer can easily carry this out, using the free cleaning  kit that we’re happy to give you every time you need to descale your Quooker.
  • If you aren’t a DIY fan, then our limescale filter is probably your best option. Simply clip off the old cartridge when it needs changing and clip on a new one in minutes.
  • If you’d prefer, we can descale and service your Quooker for you. Just call 0207 9233355 or email info@quooker.co.uk and we’ll arrange for one of our skilled engineers to do it for you.

Any one of these options will ensure that you can enjoy your Quooker for many years to come. For more information on caring for your Quooker, please visit our website.

The Drinking Water Inspectorate’s national hard water map allows you to look up the quality of your domestic water supply. If you do live in a hard water area, your local water provider’s website should also have information to help you.

Quooker workplace economics – 2 Concentration

Does everything have to stop for tea?

Why is it that, according to the old song, everything stops for tea? Simple, it takes so long to boil a kettle in a workplace that, by the time everyone has managed to get hold of a cup of their favoured hot beverage, all of the flow and concentration that has been built up just disappears.

It is so important, in an effective and efficient working environment, to build working momentum. It might take most of us a little time to get going in the morning but, once we are into the rhythm of work, we can get lots done. Yet, when tea time comes around, all of that lovely productivity goes out of the window because of the fuss inherent in an ordinary tea break. None of us in the UK would ever dream of depriving a workforce of their almost God given right to have a cuppa, yet tea should not need to be a disruption, no matter how many cups you drink.

A Quooker boiling water tap in the workplace cuts down disruption and preserves the all-important concentration needed in a highly productive environment.

With a Quooker it takes only seconds to make a cuppa, so that the valuable concentration of each member of staff can be preserved. A Quooker means less waiting, less distraction and more concentration. It is good for the team member, who does not want to face constant disruption to remain hydrated, and the business benefits from increased productivity.

The Quooker stores water under pressure at 110°C so that, when you turn on the tap, there is genuinely boiling water instantly available. It is no longer necessary to hang around for the 3 minutes or so that it might take a kettle to boil. Instead, boiling water is there when it is needed so that a cuppa can be had when it is wanted.

If you’re not first to the kettle, you may have to wait longer to take your turn, whereas the pressurised tank on a commercial Quooker allows up to 11 litres of water to be delivered at a genuine 100°C at any time (more than 5 times the quantity of the average kettle) so if the team all decide they want a drink at much the same time, it’s no problem at all. A workplace Quooker can cope with making up to 33 mugs of tea or coffee at one time or, more simply, one mug of tea or coffee whenever a member of the workforce wants one, all day, every day.

Saving time, energy and concentration, a Quooker boiling water tap is always good for business.

Reasons to buy a Quooker 2 - The importance of being boiling

If you want to make your kitchen as time and energy efficient as possible, you will probably have spent some time researching boiling water taps.  Hopefully you will have realised that they are by no means all the same.

For a start, if the water from your boiling water tap isn’t actually boiling, you’ll be wasting your money.   To replace a kettle – which ideally you want to do in order to free up worktop space, save time and make your kitchen safer – the tap you choose must dispense boiling water at a full 100°C.  Otherwise it just won’t replace the kettle.

A decent cup of breakfast tea requires 100°C boiling water to bring out the flavour and brew it to perfection.  Unfortunately the vast majority of taps on the market don’t achieve this.  The patented technology of the Quooker, on the other hand, ensures that it does dispense 100°C boiling water, exactly when you need it and in the exact quantity that you require.

Some teas and freshly ground coffees require delicate treatment.  For this reason, many people think that you can’t use boiling water on them.  They choose to let a kettle cool slightly before brewing for this reason; in fact sometimes they will let it cool too much and have to re-boil the water – which affects its quality – and then let it cool again, hoping they actually make that tea before they get distracted again.

Using a Quooker you can brew more delicate beverages straight from the tap because the water is dispensed in an aerated spray - more patented Quooker technology!  This prevents the scalding of green tea or coffee that you may get with a kettle and ensures a perfect brew every time.  From deciding you would like a cup of tea to actually having it in the cup takes about 10 seconds with a Quooker, versus three minutes with a kettle.

(That's if you don’t get distracted and have to repeat the process, of course.)

There are a lot of good reasons to make sure you choose a Quooker – and only a Quooker.
Perhaps the most important is that Quookers really do provide genuine 100°C boiling water – which is what you can expect (and receive) from the company that invented the boiling water tap and spent the next four decades perfecting it.

Quooker workplace economics 1 - Breakout

Time to think more creatively about boiling water

Ever noticed how long it takes to organise a breakout meeting at work?  That’s often because preparing refreshments to take into your meeting takes so long.  Everyone wants tea or coffee the way they like it – and that’s fair enough because creative brains can be fueled with a little caffeine and they certainly work better when they are properly hydrated.  But it’s a hassle to boil several kettles to get a round of drinks in, so it often takes a good ten or twenty minutes to get the breakout meeting going – and that can be bad news for spontaneity and creativity.

What if you ditch the kettle and locate a Quooker in your breakout zone?  A number of highly creative things start to happen!

For a start, nobody loses their train of thought and the meeting can start at once – drinks can be prepared as you issue the brief and get underway.  The Quooker provides 100ºC water more effectively and more efficiently than a kettle tucked away in the kitchen.

As you plan, devise, dream big and think out of the box, each person can help themselves to the drink they prefer right there in the breakout zone.  If the challenge takes longer to address and needs a little more brain power, nobody needs to leave to organise more refreshments – they just help themselves without interrupting the session.  A Quooker keeps water stored at 110°C under pressure so it boils as it is dispensed on demand.  This means your breakout thinking and invaluable ideas can flow uninterrupted, even if everyone fancies another cuppa at different moments.

The same is true in the boardroom, where you may also have a need for greater confidentiality.  Why risk a breach of security when you can have all you need on demand for an important board meeting?  Install a Quooker and a small integrated fridge in the boardroom and you’ll never need to interrupt a critical meeting to call out for refreshments again.

A Quooker boiling water tap in the workplace saves time, preserves concentration, adds convenience and guards confidentiality. On every level, a Quooker boiling water tap makes great business sense.

Reasons to buy a Quooker 1 - 40 years in the making

The whole concept of the boiling water tap started with Quooker.  From the start, Henri Peteri, whose vision it was, set his mind to creating a tap which would completely replace the kettle in the modern kitchen.  By deciding this, he set himself some ambitious goals, so it’s not surprising that he took time to perfect his invention before launching it on the market.

For a start, he felt that his tap had to dispense genuine 100°C boiling water instantaneously, because that’s what it takes to make a good cup of tea.  Anything less than that and you can’t bring out the flavour of the tea and brew a good cuppa.  If he were to produce a tap that gave very hot, but not boiling water, he reasoned, you would still need both a hot tap and a kettle, which would be pointless.

He also wanted the tap, which he named the Quooker, to be time-saving and to take less energy to operate than a kettle, so that its overall running costs would be less than the kettle too.  So he didn’t give up until he had perfected a system that would hold water in a vacuum flask at 110°C and dispense it at a true 100°C boiling from the spout.  Succeeding in all these aims, he achieved a world first which still can’t be copied because of the patented technology that he created.

Of course, he was well aware that boiling water needs to be treated with caution and respect, so the next step in developing the Quooker was to ensure that it was safe to use in the home.  Several safety features were added to the design, including the now famous aerated spray delivery through a specially designed spout, and a push turn handle to make sure it couldn’t be turned on by accident.

Over a decade was spent perfecting the Quooker before it was officially launched on the market.

Having established the substance, Quooker wasn’t about to forget style and, over the years, we developed models which would suit the style and décor in a wide range of kitchens as tastes changed and developed in the kitchen market.

Four decades on from that first concept, the Quooker tap is still the pre-eminent boiling water tap, now in a range of options.

As well as our stunning range of dedicated boiling water taps, we now have our new Nordic series.  First we introduced the Quooker Twintaps, the first matching dedicated boiling water and mixer taps, in Nordic Round or Square designs.

Then, just last year we launched the Fusion, an aptly named tap which now provides everything you could need in a single tap – hot, cold and 100°C boiling.  So the choice really is yours.

It’s reassuring to know that after forty years the original is still the best and most innovative, isn’t it?
